How does DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) work to promote sleep?

DSIP is a naturally occurring neuropeptide first isolated in 1977 that modulates the sleep-wake cycle by interacting with the central nervous system. It is thought to enhance slow-wave (delta) sleep by regulating sleep-promoting hormones like melatonin and modulating stress response pathways including corticotropin-releasing factor. Research suggests DSIP may also stimulate growth hormone-releasing hormone secretion and act through NMDA receptors in the brain, though its exact mechanisms remain under investigation.
